Great Laptop But......

This review is from: ASUS G73JW-A1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
I just purchased the XA1 model and out of the box I was having a few issues (backlight/function keys not working and cdrom drivers being iffy.) The first thing I did was create the backup discs. One nice thing is if you happen to delete the application that creates the discs for you, it can be found on the driver disc that came with the laptop. Anyway, after a day or so of freaking out, I used the backup discs and restored the system (yeah... a day after cutting it on for the first time.) Took almost 2 hours to reinstall Windows with all the added junk, but the laptop works perfectly now. Haven't had an issue since.

One thing I was worried about with an i7 laptop was heat, but Asus designed the rear fans very well. It runs SO much cooler than my old Toshiba Satellite. CPU temps are running around 40 or so, going up while playing games (WoW, CoD, L4D2) to about 55 or 60. Battery life is... normal compared to what this beast has under the hood. On the first charge it only lasted around 2 hours, but creating and burning the ISO images for the backup CDs seemed to hog some major resources.

I'll update after a week or so and give a better review. It's running great now, but it is a little odd having to reformat the 2nd day I've used the thing.
