Let me start this by saying i am an IT professional and work with PC's
of all makes, models, and specs. Asus has always been a VERY good brand
in my books. I was searching for a new laptop after getting frustrated with my old Acer laptop. It was a great laptop when i purchased it but after 3 years it was lacking for my uses. I am demanding on my PC's and there are many i deal with that will not handle what i do on them. My desktop is a very high end gaming rig.
I had been looking at, and leaning towards the Alien-ware M17x laptops with nearly equal specs to this Asus. My company is a Dell exclusive company and after many dealings with Dell i have grown to respect their service department as they always take care of what problems we have. I have always thought the Alien-ware laptops had a great design that no other company was really able to match.
I saw the G73JH-BST7 model at Best Buy one day and decided to take a look at it seeing the price (about $1200). I decided i like the laptop a long but wanted a Full 1080P screen, 8gb on ram, and a Nvidia graphics card. I was willing to do without the Nvidia if i had to but preferred it. I got online and found the G73JW's that seemed to have everything i wanted at a fraction of the price of the Alien-ware laptop i had been leaning towards. I decided to begin looking at the G73JW-A1 laptops and decided that i didn't care much about the Blu-ray player, backpack, or mouse and looked at the XA1 model instead. It had everything i wanted at a very reasonable price. I purchased the laptop friday and received it saturday thanks to Amazon and their amazing shipping.
I could not possible be happier with the laptop. the g73jw model seems to have ironed out every kink from the older g73jh models. I love the screen, speed, and illuminated keyboard on this laptop as i am often on the PC late into the night between work and gaming. the texture is a great addition as i feel it will help to protect the laptop more than the gloss of my Acer did.
Pros:
Speed, components, everything
Full HD Screen is great for any media or gaming
Almost as fast as my high end desktop.
Cons:
could be heavy for some (it's a 17" laptop, it's going to be heavy)
hard to find a bag for it (ended up ordering an alienware one i heard works great)
Other thoughts:
I've only had the laptop for a few days but i can already tell it's going to suit my needs for years to come. It's fast and seem to run anything i have tried on it without any hiccups.
