Review Of The ASUS G73Jw-A1
Great Price For Such A Great Performer
This review is from: ASUS
G73JW-A1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black) (Personal
Computers)
The first one i got was defective (blue screens upon first boot and
also continue until the day i returned it), but amazon customer service
was great with the 30days return, they overnighted a new one even
before i ship the old one. Great service from amazon, would easily buy
again any laptop with this kind of deals. If you are worried about it,
just check the other reviews, all are pretty happy with it, i just got
a bad apple, and the replacement was excellent. Before you buy it, there is some thing you should know, this is an amazon exclusive and the price is lower out of some changes over the A1, like 1 less hdd (but comes with 750gb 7200rpm Seagate drive), only 1hdd bracket/caddy (important if you plan to add an ssd or second drive, this are hard to get), suppose to come with 1066 memory (both laptops i recieved had 1333mhz like the A1), no mouse/backpack.
Appearance and Design
Looks really slick, the rubberize cover is really a nice touch, easy to grip, no fingerprints. The stealthy look fits me very nicely but i can see this not being for all. Because of its dual vents located on the back, you get all plugs on the side, not that it matters but if you go with a lot of external devices it might get crowded.
Performance,
I have played SC2 a lot recently and this laptop handles it on ultra at 1080p on 1v1, maybe on 2v2/3v3/4v4 could get a little harder with more units on game.
Temps,
Barely breaking 70C on 5 hours of SC2, on both CPU n GPU. On idle i seen go as low as 35C, but it does go up to 40-45C depending on the ambient temp, but overall one of the coolest gaming laptops out there, no need for an extra cooler although it might help if you want lower temps.
Noise,
Almost silent, on idle i cant hear anything, upon heavy gaming i bearly notice the fans. The back vent style helps a lot.
Screen,
Beautifull FHD 1080p, colors are bright, the viewing angles are great (something that asus lacked in the past).
Only miss or regrets is the lack of eSata, Express port and Raid, but with USB3 im good. One small suggestion is to upgrade the WiFi to an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 - Network adapter - PCI Express Half Mini Card - 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11n, its cheap and will allow you better reception, stability and in some cases like mine able to get 5ghz band on my N router.
Sandybridge is close, but this is a very solid performer, if you want something now, this is very hard to beat.
